After many ‘teasers’ and speculation, the wraps have finally been taken off the new 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI ahead of its international debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in a few weeks.

Based on the current WRX hatch, the STI has shortened front and rear bumpers to reduce overhang and emphasize the ‘wheel at each corner’ stance. A longer and wider wheelbase, covered by flared guards over each wheel, is used to improve on the already impressive handling of the WRX.

The JDM version of the 2008 WRX STI will get a heavily revised version of the 2.0-litre flat-four as seen in past WRX’s. If a leaked brochure is anything to go by the 2008 WRX STI will send 225kW (304 hp) and 420 Nm of torque through all four wheels via Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system, that will also feature an all new multi mode Drivers Control Center Differential (DCCD). All I want to know now is will Australia receive the 2.5-litre engine as seen in the last model STI or will Subaru revert back to 2.0-litres?
