Not twenty four hours after its global debut and Nissan’s performance arm, Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. (NISMO) have announced the new GT-R will compete in the GT500 class of Japan’s Super GT touring car series next year.
Four years have passed since a Nissan GT-R has graced the pavement during a GT500 competition (2003, which it won incidentally) and Nissan are setting the GT-R out to do what it what the R32 GT-R did; annihilate all competition in its class.
As always there are rules and guidelines that manufacturers have to meet in order to gain entry to GT500, one of which is a 373 kW (500 hp) power cap.
Seeing the road going version of the new GT-R puts out 360kW (473 hp), I’m sure NISMO wont have a problem meeting that regulation. Thanks to NAGTROC for the quality renderings of what the NISMO race-spec GT-R may look like.
